Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase “each other” doesn’t make any sense.
— Rumi
It is an immense privilege for me to accompany people on their therapeutic adventures. I have a very open-minded and non-judgemental attitude to life (and death) and my practice rests upon fostering a safe collaborative space — characterised by openness, curiosity, warmth, humour, respect and responsiveness. This foundation opens up a space for nurturing an increasing awareness of the patterns of our minds, emotions, physical experience and actions, and for cultivating the practice of alternative skilful or mindful responses when those patterns seem unhelpfully stuck. What makes it difficult for us to fully inhabit the present moment, and what can we practice to make this possible are also important questions.
I practice a systemic, person-centred, and trauma-informed approach to therapy, working from the understanding that each person is the expert in their own life. I approach therapy from a non-pathologising, transdiagnostic stance which acknowledges that we each exist within a myriad of social, cultural and political contexts. As we are embodied beings, biological, hormonal, intergenerational and environmental factors are also important. It is also clear that our childhood experiences fundamentally inform our later experiences of life.
I enjoy supporting people from all walks of life, however I am particularly passionate about supporting people who are often marginalised in our society, including people in BIPOC, queer (LGBTQIA+), and sex work communities. It is abundantly clear to me that diversity and creativity are are two of the fundamental features of the universe we find ourselves in.
Being a curious and creative person I have a rich background that includes working in music and theatre production, psychology research, academia, IT consultancy, community housing and development, refugee support, youth work and drug harm minimisation.
My formal education includes:
